After what felt like an endless amount of Covid restrictions over the last two years, all travel restrictions were lifted last month for arrivals into the UK, including passenger locator forms, as well as proof of a negative test for unvaccinated passengers.

But heading out of the UK, there are still some travel rules you need to be aware of. There is new cabin bag information from airlines including British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and TUI.

If you show up to the airport with bags heavier than what is allowed, you could face a fine, so here is the latest information for these airlines.

All passenger fare types allow a small personal bag that can go under the seat in front of you and must be no bigger than 40x20x25cm. Ryanair has made clear that any bigger baggage will be denied entry at the boarding gate. Alternatively, if space is available, the bag can be placed in the aircraft for a fee of £69.99.

Customers can check their baggage size at the bag drop desk before going through security if you they are unsure about whether their bag is the appropriate size.

British Airways is slightly more generous, as passengers are allowed one piece of hand luggage and one small item. Hand luggage must not be bigger than 56x45x25cm and the small item must not exceed 40x30x15cm. Both items have a weight limit of up to 23kg.

If any of your hand baggage exceeds these weight limits, it will need to be checked in and it will still count towards your checked baggage allowance. If this takes you over your free allowance, or if you are travelling on hand baggage only (basic) fare, extra charges will apply.

All customers are allowed one small cabin bag that is no bigger than 45x36x20cm including any handles or wheels. There is a maximum weight limit of 15kg as you must be able to carry the bag yourself. This includes items like small trolley cases, handbags, rucksacks and laptop bags, but they must fit under the seat in front of you.

Jet2 allows one piece of hand luggage free of charge, so long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no bigger than 56x45x25cm. If your hand luggage weighs more or is larger, it will need to be checked into the aircraft, and you may have to pay an additional charge.

As for TUI flights, you can carry one piece of hand luggage that weighs up to 10kg for free. The bag can be no bigger than 55x40x20cm and it must fit in the the overhead storage compartment. There is an excess luggage charge for bags heavier than what is allowed in the allowance.
