Connecticut Summer at the Museum, which allows Connecticut children to receive free admission at more than 130 museums across the state, comes to an end on Monday, Labor Day.

Gov. Ned Lamont established the program in 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide children with engaging summer enrichment and learning experiences. It is funded through a $15 million investment in federal COVID-19 recovery funding Connecticut received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Under the program, from July 1 to Sept. 5, Connecticut children 18 and younger — plus one accompanying Connecticut adult — are admitted free to participating museums.

EAST WINDSOR — The Connecticut Trolley Museum, 58 North Road (Route 140), will wrap up its summer activities Sunday, Sept 4.

At the museum, visitors can:

• Ride trolley cars operated by period-dressed motormen who relate historic information about that car and how the museum began.

• Climb aboard stationary trolleys to take the controls and let your imagination “operate.”

• Don clothing of a motorman or conductor at the dress-up station, and build a trolley or train at the Lego station for display at the museum.

• The Fire Truck Museum, on the grounds of the Trolley Museum, has on display more than 15 fire trucks dating to 1923. Admission to the Fire Truck Museum is included in the Trolley Museum admission ticket.

Admission is $11 for adults, $10 for adults 62 and older and youths ages 12-17; $8 children ages 2-11; free for children younger than 2 and museum members free.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Labor Day and weekends Sept. 10-18. For more information, call 860-627-6540 or visit: ct-trolley.org

WINDSOR LOCKS — The New England Air Museum, 36 Perimeter Road, has several events planned for this weekend, including the grand opening of two new flight simulators Saturday, Sept. 3.

The stationary, video game-style flight simulators are available for visitors 10 and older.

Visitors can choose between an immersive, very realistic flight in an F-18 or NX Cub. Tickets are available in 20-minute increments between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and cost $10. Tickets cannot be reserved in advance and are available first-come, first-serve.

• The Aircraft of the Week is the B-29 “Superfortress.” Meet members of the B-29 restoration crew Saturday and learn more about this iconic aircraft.

The B-29 Super-fortress was a technological marvel of its time — larger, faster, and with more range than any other bomber. It also featured the first-ever pressurized bomber cabin, and an early computer to control the remote guns.

• Storage hangar final day on Sunday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See the F-14 “Tomcat,” F-4D “Phantom II,” F-86 “Sabre,” and more.

The storage hangar houses more than 20 iconic aircraft. This experience is included with standard admission. The outdoor storage hangar is available only during the summer.

• Redbird full motion simulator , available Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Redbird is an FAA-approved simulator featuring 200-degree panoramic visuals and motion on all three axes — 40 degrees roll, 50 degrees pitch, and 60 degrees yaw. Accelerate down the runway with a museum staff member in your own Cessna 172. Get ready to take the controls and experience flight.

The simulator is available for guests 12 and older. Sessions are $25 for 30 minutes. Tickets are first-come, first-serve, and cannot be reserved in advance.

Air Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; closed on Mondays from Labor Day through Memorial Day.

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Museums has a new exhibit, “We’re Still Here,” which opens today, Sept. 1, in Native Hall at the Springfield Science Museum.

The exhibit, which runs through June 30, was curated by Aprell May of Springfield, who has ancestry from the Mohawk tribe of the Iroquois Confederacy and is a member of the Native American Inter-Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts.

“We’re Still Here” bridges the past to the present by exploring varied themes of ancestry, resilience, and identity through the words of contemporary Native peoples.

The Springfield Science Museum is one of five Springfield Museums on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards St. in downtown Springfield.

Museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Advance tickets are strongly encouraged.

Hours are today through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Mondays and Tuesdays beginning Labor Day; closed Sept. 12-16. For more information, go to: ctsciencecenter.org
