We tapped designers Christine Gachot and Elliott Barnes to pick their poisons.
Since the 22nd Amendment (the one that repealed Prohibition) was ratified in 1933, the bar cart has become a fixture of even the driest household. Bottles of top-shelf spirits can, themselves, be just as beautiful and expressive as any objet d’art sitting on a cocktail table, but without the right cart, the stray shaker and jiggers and that dust-covered Balvenie 15 you’ve been opening only on special occasions might just be an eyesore. To make sure your (drinking) game is on point, designers Christine Gachot and Elliott Barnes take shots on 10 truly invigorating bar carts.
Christine Gachot: This is epic! It would fit seamlessly into any residential project. Elliott Barnes: I could see this in the executive suites of Lever House.

EB: I like the mixture of metal and natural fibers in this 1970s-inspired cart. CG: Love the caning. That timeless material with a contemporary silhouette is a pleasant contrast.

CG: A little space-age fun could be a great pop in a more austere space. EB: I’m envisioning Jacques Tati pushing this through the Arpel house in an outtake of Mon Oncle.
EB: The buggy-style wheels really tie this piece to the equestrian brand codes of Hermès. CG: Between the basket weave and the leather accents, this one is all about craftsmanship.

CG: The tiered ash veneer legs are a fun reference to Art Deco. Someone make me a martini, stat! EB: It’s almost like architecture on wheels. The inverted arches bring to mind the art of de Chirico.

EB: I can imagine it on a stone-covered terrace surrounded entirely by Loom chairs. CG: It’s so cute and super affordable.

EB: There is something very innocent and playful about this piece.

EB: The light wood structure accented by thin metal details recalls the work of Raymond Loewy. CG: A well-executed, contemporary take on a vintage design.

CG: The streamlined, curved design is pretty, and the casters add an industrial edge. EB: Timeless Italian modernism in leather, metal, and glass.

EB: The thin, polished metal legs almost disappear, letting the upper shelf float visually. CG: The pullout tables are sweet, and the snake marquetry adds to the glamour.
